Welcome to the tenth, and last, special edition of the Quiero mejorar mi inglés podcast about contractions. (Download from iTunes)
Last week we looked at the contractions of the modal verbs 'dare' and 'need', and this week we're going to look at the contractions of 'there'.
OK, here they are. Pay attention!
there is - there's
there has - there's
there had been - there'd been
there would be - there'd be
there will be - there'll be
Here are some simple example sentences:
There's a high probability of rain this weekend.
There's been an accident on the motorway!
On the TV, they said there'd been an anti-war demonstration.
The teacher said there'd be no homework for Christmas.
The weather forecast says there'll be strong winds tomorrow.
In order to learn the correct pronunciation, you could make some simple sentences with the above contractions.
This is the last 'Quiero mejorar mi inglés' podcast in this special series on contractions. I hope you've found it useful.
Until the next time. Bye!
